Books I recommend..
I'm largely involved with the photography scene across the internet be it on forums, facebook or on my personnel website and often I get asked what books would I recommend that might help to improve on photography. I hope this page will help others in their quest for searching new ideas and tips into the photography world.
Through out this post I will use direct link's to authors and to online retailers like amazon, I have no Affiliation to these sites.
I'm not a writer so apologies for typos ;)
We all know that knowlege is power and what better way to improve that power than by reading books that help us to evolve as a photographer. When I first picked up a camera back in January 2009 I had no idea how to operate it never mind compose a picture. One of the first books that I can recommend is one that goes into great depth about the camera. We all know the included manual covers the need to knows but some 3rd party books go into greater depth and help us learn more advanced features, even with detailed illustrations. Brian McLernon is an editorial photographer based in Portland, Oregon, USA - if like me you're a 5D Mark II user then one of his books the "Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Field Guide" may well help you like it's helped me.
ok, so we've managed to learn the camera, we have learnt how to operate it and how to take a picture- we have progressed from auto to manual modes but now we want to improve on our composition to make an even better picture (something we all learn daily and continue to do so "well me anyways").While browsing the internet I found the following book The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos by Michael Freeman a professional photographer based in the United Kingdom. Michael travels the globe yearly on assignment's and in doing so and I have no idea how hes done it but hes found the time to publish more than 120 books! The Photographer's Eye, so whats it about?
Taken from the book:
Apart from the above, other books I highly recommend:
Digital Nature Photography: The Art and the Science
Digital Landscape Photography
both books are by well known professional nature photographers John and Barbara Gerlach
Lastly, The Essential Guide to Landscape Photography first and second editions by Digital SLR Photography Magazine, both paperback and more like a bumper magazine but full of helpfull information for it's readers to digest.
